Onshape Integration

Link CAD documents for live 3D configurators driven by parametric models.

What it does

The Onshape integration connects your parametric CAD models directly to Spokbee. When a customer changes a parameter in the configurator, the 3D model updates in real time by sending the new values to Onshape, which regenerates the geometry and streams it back. This means your configurator always shows the exact CAD-accurate model — not a static 3D file.

How to connect

To set up the Onshape integration:

1

Go to Settings

Navigate to Settings > Integrations > Onshape in your workspace.
2

Authorize Onshape

Click “Connect” and follow the OAuth flow to authorize Spokbee to access your Onshape documents. Spokbee requests read access to your documents and write access to configurations.
3

Select a document

Once connected, paste the Onshape document URL or browse your documents to select the CAD model you want to use.

Importing configuration

After selecting an Onshape document, Spokbee fetches the document's configuration parameters (variables). These are the named dimensions, features, and options defined in your Onshape FeatureScript or Part Studio. Spokbee reads their names, types (length, angle, boolean, enum), current values, and valid ranges.

You can import all parameters at once or select specific ones. The imported parameters appear in your Spokbee builder alongside any manually created parameters.

Parameter mapping

Imported Onshape parameters are mapped to Spokbee parameters:

Onshape TypeSpokbee TypeNotes
Length / AngleSlider or NumberMin/max from Onshape variable bounds
BooleanToggleTrue/false feature flags
EnumSelect or RadioEach enum value becomes a Spokbee option
StringTextFree-text configuration options

You can rename labels, reorder parameters, add Spokbee-only parameters (like quantity or add-ons), and apply pricing rules on top of the Onshape-driven parameters.

Live 3D preview

When a customer changes a parameter that has geometry_impact set to true, Spokbee sends the new values to Onshape, which regenerates the 3D model. The updated geometry streams back and the 3D viewer updates in the configurator. The customer sees the model change shape, size, or features in near-real time.

Parameters without geometry_impact (like color or add-ons) do not trigger a regeneration. This keeps the experience fast — only geometry-affecting changes call Onshape.

CAD export

Customers (or your sales team) can export the configured model in standard CAD formats:

STEP

Industry-standard format for manufacturing and CNC machining.

STL

Mesh format for 3D printing and rapid prototyping.

GLTF / GLB

Web-optimized format for sharing and embedding 3D models.

The exported file reflects the exact configuration the customer selected, with all parametric dimensions applied.

Requirements and limitations

Onshape account required

You need an Onshape account (free or paid) with the documents you want to connect.

Public or shared documents

The Onshape document must be accessible via the OAuth connection. Private documents work as long as the authorized account has access.

Regeneration time

Complex models may take a few seconds to regenerate. The viewer shows a loading indicator during this time. Simple models typically update in under 2 seconds.

Configuration variables

Only Onshape configuration variables (not all FeatureScript variables) are importable. Make sure the parameters you want to expose are defined as configuration inputs in your Part Studio or Assembly.

Tip: Keep your Onshape model lightweight for the best configurator experience. Simplify geometry where possible and use configurations rather than suppressed features to control variants.
