Visibility Rules

Show or hide parameters dynamically based on the customer's selections.

What are visibility rules?

Visibility rules control which parameters appear in the configurator based on the customer's current selections. Hidden parameters are completely removed from the form — they do not affect pricing, constraints, or the final configuration.

This keeps the configurator clean and focused: customers only see options that are relevant to their choices.

Common use cases

Toggle-dependent fields

Show “Engraving Text” only when “Add Engraving” is turned on. No need to clutter the form with a text field that most customers won't use.

Category-specific options

Show “Leg Style” only when “Product Type” is “Table”. Chairs and shelves don't have legs, so the option is hidden.

Progressive disclosure

Show “Advanced Options” only when “Mode” is “Professional”. Casual users see a simpler form.

Material-specific dimensions

Show “Glass Thickness” only when “Material” is “Glass”. Wood and metal don't need this parameter.

Creating visibility rules

There are two ways to create visibility rules:

Visual editor

In the constraint editor panel, scroll to the visibility rules section. Click “Add visibility rule”, select the target parameter to show/hide, then define the condition (which parameter and value must match for the target to be visible). You can use equals, not-equals, and is-one-of operators.

AI chat builder

Tell the builder in plain language, e.g. “Show engraving text only when personalization is on”. The AI will create the visibility rule automatically using JsonLogic conditions.

Condition types

Visibility conditions use JsonLogic under the hood but are presented in a simple UI. The available operators are:

OperatorMeaningExample
EqualsShow when param = valuetype = “table”
Not equalsShow when param ≠ valuemode ≠ “basic”
Is one ofShow when param is any of [values]material in [“glass”, “acrylic”]
Toggle is onShow when toggle = truepersonalization = true

Behavior of hidden parameters

When a parameter is hidden by a visibility rule:

  • It is completely removed from the form — no blank space is left.
  • Its value is excluded from pricing calculations.
  • Constraints referencing it are not evaluated.
  • It does not appear in the quote or order summary.
  • When it becomes visible again, it resets to its default value.

Tip: Visibility rules are different from constraints. Constraints disable individual option values (greyed out with a tooltip). Visibility rules hide the entire parameter. Use constraints for “you can't pick this option” and visibility rules for “this option doesn't apply to you”.
